NEUTRALIZATION OF PHENOL-CONTAMINATED SOILS

چکیده

To eliminate the consequences of accidental spill phenol, results neutralization soils contaminated with phenol are presented. As for analysis by geological-lithological section it was found that in areas contamination soil has a surface soil-plant layer thickness about 0.5m, then there is heavy clay up to 7.0 m and finally sand saturated groundwater observed. It revealed according physical mechanical properties, solid mineral phase corresponds hard plastic semi-solid consistency clays. showed filtration water through bottom walls on area former burial tank complicated because closer zero permeability strata due rock. Mineralogical chemical composition determined. An environmentally safe method neutralizing phenol-containing developed based quicklime bentonite which simplifies phenol. Environmental safety observed absence extracts from treatment process permissible environment рН. Essence proposed lies inactivation its transformation into slow-moving water-insoluble compound - calcium phenolate. Decontamination product smallest capsules comprising particles immobilized form Material capsule represented hydroxide neutralized over time СО2 air resulting formation hydrophobic silicate carbonate gives high strength properties. The research containing simple, ecologically safe, causes no recontamination pollutants provides content within MAC.

Growth response of Avena sativa in amino-acids-rich soils converted from phenol-contaminated soils by Corynebacterium glutamicum.

The biodegradation of phenol in laboratory-contaminated soil was investigated using the Gram-positive soil bacterium Corynebacterium glutamicum. This study showed that the phenol degradation caused by C. glutamicum was greatly enhanced by the addition of 1% yeast extract. From the toxicity test using Daphnia magna, the soil did not exhibit any hazardous effects after the phenol was removed usin...

Bioremediation of organic contaminated soils*

The term bioremediation covers a wide variety of engineered systems which utilize microorganisms to degrade, detoxify and immobilize organic contaminants. These systems include: l solid-phase treatment using unlined iand treatment systems or prepared bed bioreactors, l slurry-phase treatment systems completed either in-place or within tanks or impoundments, and l in situ treatment systems. Bior...

Biodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Petroleum Contaminated Soils

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a class of potentially hazardous chemicals of environmental and health concern. PAHs are one of the most prevalent groups of contaminants found in soil. Biodegradation of complex hydrocarbon usually requires the cooperation of more than single specie. In this research biotreatment of PAH (phenanthrene) was studied in a solid-phase reactor using indigenou...

Biosurfactant-facilitated remediation of metal-contaminated soils.

Bioremediation of metal-contaminated wastestreams has been successfully demonstrated. Normally, whole cells or microbial exopolymers are used to concentrate and/or precipitate metals in the wastestream to aid in metal removal. Analogous remediation of metal-contaminated soils is more complex because microbial cells or large exopolymers do not move freely through the soil. The use of microbially...
